Do I have OCD??

hi,

a lot of friends and family members are always telling me that i have ocd. i just wanted to get some other people opinions on it.

-i am obsessed with even numbers; everything has to be even, esp the volume on the tv/radio.

-i have to make things on my body even. ex: if i touch a door handle with my right hand, i have to touch it with my left to ';even it out';. it goes a little more in depth of how much i do that, but its too hard to try and explain.

-i count my steps a lot. i have to step on different surface the same amount of times with each foot.

-i am always biting or picking at my cuticles and my nails if i have fingernail polish on.

-i like all even numbers, but my favorites are like 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, and 256 cause if you divide them in half, they are always an even number. dont know if that makes sence or not lol.

-i use a lot of germ-x. probably more than normal, but not an extreme amount. but i have to use it and even number of times.Do I have OCD??
yes 1 2 3 4 yes 1 2 3 4 yes 1 2 3 4 yes 1 2 3 4Do I have OCD??
Sorry, but yes. OCD does not always include germs...and well, you are way too obsessed with even things. Even numbers, making your body even out, counting your steps, using Germ-X an even amount of times. You can kind of see the pattern. There's nothing wrong with it, though. Unless it affects your health or safety. Oh, and biting or picking at your cuticles and nails have nothing to do with it.
Check out low blood sugar (hypoglycemia). It can sometimes be the cause of ocd.
i have and been diagnosed with ocd, i am a germaphobe! neat freak, i used to be obsessed with the number 3........lol i do things in a pattern everyday...... i used to flick light switches off and on several times until it felt right,.......lol open and close things several times ect! way back when i was diagnosed my dr tried to push some pills on me, i refused! i would rather deal with my goofy compulsions! you may have ocd see your dr!
It sounds like you have it a little at least. i dose not sound a though it is negatively effecting you life so who cares. I don't have a problem with you liking even numbers. I'm sure there are all kinds of things that people do that others find strange. If it ever causes you problems in your life then iit would be time to maybe see a doctor.
Maybe. Most of what you are describing is a little odd but the thing that is most convincing is the second bullet point you have there. Here is the criteria for being diagnosed with OCD. Remember, a trained psychologist would have to actually assess you to see if you have these symptoms but you should have a some idea. Remember, with OCD you can have obsessions or compulsions or both.

-Obsessions (all four symptoms must be present)

1. Recurrent, persistent thoughts, impulses or images that the client recognizes as intrusive and inappropriate and that cause anxiety or distress.

2. Obsessions are not accounted for by worrying about real life events.

3. Inability to ignore or suppress thoughts or images.

4. Recognize thoughts are not grounded in reality.

-Compulsions (both symptoms must be present)

1. repetitive behavior or mental act that a person feels driven to perform in response to an obsession or according to rigid rules.

2. The behavior or mental act is intended to prevent or reduce distress or prevent a dreaded event or situation but the client knows they are not grounded in reality.

If you feel like you do have ocd and it is causing significant impairment, distress, or causing disruption in everyday life, you need to see a psychologist. The earlier you get it treated the easier it is to control. There are treatments that do not involve medication.
Yes, you have OCD. No, you don't have to get medication if you don't feel like it's interfering with the quality of your life.
Sounds like you probably do have OCD. If it's impacting your daily life in significant ways you should go get checked out by a doctor. They can help you break the OCD ticks and live a more normal life. Good luck!
it sounds like you have OCD. u should really get medication for it, sweety. and if u dont have that, it also sounds a bit like a severe asbergers case. im not an expert, but u really should see a dr about this
First off, no one on here can diagnose you.

Secondly, most people have characteristics of OCD (such as trying to make things even, chewing food several times on one side and then switching it to the other side of your mouth, having rituals, etc.)

Thirdly, in order to be diagnosed with OCD, the obsessive behavior have to severely impair your functioning. That means that it is affecting your ability to work, take care of yourself, have a healthy social life, get by financially, or other things like that. If you find that your rituals are impairing your ability to function, then talk to a professional to see about getting a diagnosis.
You could be. It could be something else. Best thing to do is to print this page off and take it to your doctor. Ask to be refered to a psychologist. Only they can truly diagnose.
Sounds like you do have ocd, everyone has a degree of ocd , sounds like yours is a little more than normal, see a conselor, they can help, medications are there for this, Sometimes ocds are hard to deal with and make things more difficult, I hope this helps, GOOD LUCK.
